{"id":2,"date":"2020-08-21T07:43:02","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T07:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/europlanet-gmap.eu\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2021-03-16T07:54:11","modified_gmt":"2021-03-16T07:54:11","slug":"about-gmap","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.europlanet-gmap.eu\/?page_id=2","title":{"rendered":"About GMAP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GMAP (Geologic MApping of Planetary bodies)&nbsp;<\/strong>is a part of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europlanet-society.org\/europlanet-2024-ri\/\" target=\"_blank\">Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure<\/a>, together with other <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europlanet-society.org\/europlanet-2024-ri\/virtual-access-va\/\" target=\"_blank\">VA<\/a> (Virtual Access) activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GMAP integrates partners and outputs from two projects previously funded by the EU through Horizon 2020 (<a href=\"http:\/\/upwards-mars.eu\/\">UPWARDS<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/planmap.eu\/\">PLANMAP<\/a>) to deliver tools and services for geological mapping of any Solar System body.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The infrastructure created through GMAP will support future European missions in developing orbital acquisition strategies, rover deployment and traverses, and human exploration programmes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, only&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/\">USGS<\/a>&nbsp;has provided planetary geological maps on a regular basis and no other permanent infrastructure in the world supports and integrates these valuable products with new innovations (e.g. georesource maps, stratigraphic maps, 3D geomodels). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GMAP aims at building infrastructure for Europe, to cover any aspect of geological mapping of any Solar System body, and support robotic and human exploration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Banner image credit:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lpi.usra.edu\/resources\/mapcatalog\/usgs\/I703\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USGS \/ LPI<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GMAP (Geologic MApping of Planetary bodies)&nbsp;is a part of the Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure, together with other VA (Virtual Access) activities.
